UK-based heavy haulier Collett & Sons is deploying its recently acquired 350-tonne capacity Greiner modular side girder bridge system (SGB) on a long-term contract with GE.

Collett’s work on the contract began back in June 2025, with the company delivering large power transformers from GE’s Stafford facility to Ellesmere Port. The Greiner SGB was added to the Collett fleet earlier this year to meet the growing demands of the project.
In September, the SGB was deployed for the first time for GE in a 30-axle configuration. Over the course of the contract, Collett will move 35 girder frame loads.
It will be used in conjunction with Goldhofer THP/SL-L modular axles – also recent additions to the Collett fleet.
David Collett, managing director at Collett & Sons, said: “This investment in the new 350-tonne Greiner girder bridge completes the jigsaw in terms of our fleet capacity. It was introduced specifically to satisfy a client requirement and further strengthen our engineered heavy transport capabilities. Combined with our new Goldhofer axles, it’s great to see the system performing exactly as intended on its first deployment.”
