GPO Heavylift successfully completed a significant transatlantic project, transporting Prysmian’s cable laying barge Ulisse from Pikkala, Finland to Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
Completed in January 2025, the project presented several challenges. Icy Baltic waters and unpredictable North Atlantic winter storms made the 4,500 nautical mile voyage altogether more treacherous. GPO Heavylift worked to ensure the safety and stability of the sensitive cable laying equipment throughout the journey.
Despite the conditions, the cargo was delivered on time with zero incidents recorded during the entire operation. “As the demand for undersea cable installation grows globally, we stand ready to support the industry with our specialised transportation solutions,” said the company.
In November 2024, HLPFI reported that deugro had started the first cable drum deliveries for SuedOstLink, on behalf of Prysmian.
