Two 600-tonne ship-to-shore gantry cranes arrived at Associated British Ports' (ABP) container terminal in Hull, UK onboard Hansa Heavy Lift's vessel, HHL Lagos.

The two Liebherr cranes, worth approximately GBP10.5 million (USD14.7 million), will enable the terminal to increase container capacity to more than 400,000 units per year, says ABP.

HHL Lagos' own heavy lift cranes were used to discharge the units, which measured 50 m in height, on to the quayside crane rails.

The cranes, which were constructed in Ireland and took approximately 11 months to build, form part of APB's GBP15 million (USD21 million) investment in the terminal, which also includes the purchase of reachstackers and tug trailers, as well as the creation of 9,000 sq m of storage.

The cranes will be fully operational by the beginning of April 2018.
