MaxiKraft in Germany has used its Liebherr 11000 crawler crane to install a 200-tonne girder for a former casting gantry crane at a ThyssenKrupp plant in Duisburg.

The heavy lifting contractor MaxiKraft recently added the 1,000-tonne capacity crane to its fleet and after completing its first job erecting a turbine in southern Brandenburg, it had to be transported around 600 km to Duisburg by more than 30 heavy haulage vehicles for the installation work.

The girder measured 40 m long. The LR 11000 had to be set up with 50 tonnes of central ballast, 170 tonnes of slewing platform ballast and 320 tonnes of derrick ballast within four days in its SL11DBV configuration with a 102 m main boom and a 42 m derrick boom.

Crane operator Marcel Kallwass said: “The delivery of the crane components was a logistical master class. Things were very tight, particularly when setting up the crane. But everything actually went very well.”

SPMTs manoeuvred the steel component from the preparation area to the crane. It had to move a few metres with the load on its hook.
