Scan Global Logistics (SGL) is delivering 90,000 freight tons of plant equipment for a clinker production line in Rufisque, Senegal.

Cement plant supplier Fives FCB awarded SGL the contract earlier this year. SGL set up a control tower at its industrial project office in Dunkirk, France, which will coordinate deliveries from more than seven countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia via Dakar port.

The first shipment, totalling 656 tonnes, comprised eight kiln shells as well as rotors, tables and crates. The cargoes arrived at China’s Shanghai port by barge and were reloaded and secured in the belly of a chartered geared vessel.

The kiln shells measured 6.6 m in diameter and weighed 82 tonnes each. As such, the transport from Dakar port necessitated the removal of four pedestrian bridges for the heavy cargoes to pass.

The bridges were then reassembled after the delivery in close collaboration with the local authorities.

SGL said that to ensure the successful delivery of the Rufisque project it will employ all means of transport, including container and ro-ro services as well as flatbed, lowbed and multi-axle heavy-duty trailers.
