Sarens is proud to play a central role in the ongoing expansion of the Langley Event Center in British Columbia, Canada. This ambitious project will add three new ice rinks, two dryfloor arenas, and underground parking, providing the community with expanded recreational opportunities while boosting local employment and the regional economy.

Engineering Solutions for a Complex Site

The expansion works presented significant challenges, from congested site conditions and tower crane interference to the need for precise ground compaction and support. To meet these demands, Sarens mobilised a powerful fleet of equipment, including:

  • LR1400 crawler crane with 79’ of main boom and 256’ of luffing jib
  • LTM1400, configured with Y-guys, full counterweights, and a 276’ luffer
  • LTM1160 with full jib (118’)
  • LTM1095
  • Rough terrain cranes and a 55T boom truck

These cranes were selected for their ability to handle heavy loads at large radiuses while operating within a confined urban jobsite. Transported from Surrey to Langley in just 30 minutes, the LR1400 required five days of assembly, while the LTM1400 was operational within a single day.

Precision Lifting in a Tight Environment

Over the course of more than seven months, Sarens’ team of 7–10 crew members has been lifting and installing critical components, including steel structures, roof and wall panels, and rebar. Some lifts involved loads of up to 18000 lbs at a 310’ radius and 70’ in height.

Despite the complexity of the environment, the team successfully navigated tight spaces and coordinated carefully with other equipment on-site to ensure safe and efficient execution.

Building for the Future

The Langley Event Center expansion will have a lasting impact on the region by delivering new sports and recreational facilities, improving land-use efficiency, and creating jobs during and after construction. “This project has been a rewarding challenge for our crews,” noted the crane supervisor on site. “Working around tower cranes in such a congested setting tested our planning and precision, but the results speak for themselves.”

With this project, Sarens once again demonstrates its ability to combine technical expertise, advanced equipment, and teamwork to deliver safe and successful lifting solutions on complex construction sites.
