Spliethoff Group has signed contracts with China’s Mawei Shipyard for the construction of two DP2-enabled B-type vessels.

The Netherlands-based carrier said the design combines the capacity of a multipurpose vessel with DP2 station-keeping up to Beaufort scale 6, which makes it well suited for supplying heavy cargo directly offshore.

The B-type is equipped with two Huisman 500-tonne lifting capacity mast cranes. To fit in with Spliethoff’s continuous drive for greener operations, the propulsion and power generation systems are equipped with scrubbers and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems.

According to Spliethoff, the 12,500 dwt ship, which features a large flat deck, has a significantly higher cargo intake than existing offshore supply vessels.

Spliethoff’s first two B-type vessels are scheduled for delivery in the autumn of 2021.
