The size of the drum dryer required it to be disassembled into parts for transportation - the largest of the individual units was 5.5 m in diameter and 3.9 m high, with the heaviest section weighing 26.7 tonnes.

Van der Vlist transported the dismantled parts from Dinklage to Kiel, where the cargo was shipped to St Petersburg. The company's Russian office then arranged the remaining 1,400 km road transportation from St Petersburg to Chaykovsky.

On arrival at the site, the parts were unloaded and reassembled ready for the drum's operation in the drying of sugar beet.
