December 11 - Engineered Rigging has presented its innovative pipe modular lift system (PMLS) at the Power-Gen conference in Las Vegas.

Engineered Rigging claims that the new patent-pending PMLS eliminates the hazards of suspended loads, impacts from wind, and reliance on cranes, by employing a platform that mechanically raises and lowers heavy components.

According to the US equipment manufacturer, it provides a safer, faster method of lifting equipment and materials up and into elevated locations, while offering a number of advantages over traditional crane and gantry lift systems.

The capacity and footprint of the PMLS can be custom configured for every site. The system accommodates lifting capacities of 400, 800 and 1,200 tonnes at a vertical travel distance up to and exceeding 50 ft (15.2 m), with the height tailored to comply with project requirements.

The standard column section can be increased in 10 ft (3.05 m) increments, or customised to meet specific client needs. It can be constructed in square, rectangular and round layouts based on site-specific conditions, and is designed for 5 percent side loading, with clear span openings configurable to 50 ft (15.2 m) or more.

Engineered Rigging says that the PMLS also differs from traditional crane and gantry lift systems in its ease of transport, rapid deployment, lift speed and wind tolerance.

The system can be transported using 12 standard trailers, without any wide or heavy load requirements. Upon delivery, assembly of the machine requires five shifts or fewer, claims the company.

The PMLS has a lifting speed of 20 inches (0.5 m) per minute, and is designed to withstand 120 mph winds.

The company noted that the system was recently used successfully at an electric power plant in the USA.
