The JSI Alliance is set to expand its fleet with the addition of six D-type vessels.
Harren Group will assume full ownership of five out of the six D-type vessels, with the sixth ship – Industrial Diamond – to be operated under a long-term charter agreement.
Measuring 120 m in length, the D-type vessels have a specialised design allowing them to handle heavy, oversized and sensitive project cargo – especially in ports with limited draught or insufficient infrastructure, said SAL. The vessels are equipped with two 250-tonne cranes, allowing for combined lifts of up to 500 tonnes.
With commissioning scheduled between July and October 2025, the first three vessels – Industrial Dolphin, Industrial Diamond, and Industrial Destiny – have already joined the fleet, with three more to follow shortly after.
“Adding these vessels to our fleet is about matching capability with what our customers actually need in today’s market- whether that’s a single transformer going upriver or an entire deck of mixed breakbulk,” said Richard Seeg, president at Intermarine.
JSI Alliance comprises heavy lift and multipurpose shipping specialists Jumbo, SAL Heavy Lift and Intermarine.
Last month, HLPFI reported that SAL had launched its fourth Orca heavy lift vessel, Carlotta.
