The joint venture of Dutch maritime heavy lift transport and engineering contractor Jumbo Shipping and German breakbulk and project cargo specialist SAL Heavy Lift, a part of Harren Group, has been operating for three years. The addition of Harren Group stablemate Intermarine brings the combined fleet of vessels under the commercial joint venture up to 50.

Described as an evolution of the existing alliance, the joint venture combines the carriers’ respective fleets and commercial activities for breakbulk and project cargo, with a joint network of offices and agents in 23 countries worldwide. The fleet ranges from multipurpose vessels to advanced heavy lift ships with capacities up to 3,000 tonnes. With this range, the JSI Alliance can offer semi-liner and liner services as well as customised project shipping solutions. The three brands remain independent and will actively trade in the market.

Intermarine president Richard Seeg said: “We’re a sister company to SAL, which means we’ve had some cooperation up to this point. But forming a real commercial joint venture and alliance marks the beginning of a new and greater adventure.” He explained that the addition of Intermarine product to the joint venture will bring an expanded reach to the portfolio, with more services and a particular strength in the Americas.

Lars Rasmussen, Intermarine chief operating officer, added: “With JSI Alliance, you can find simple, straightforward transport solutions as well as the capacity to handle the most complex heavy lift projects. We can combine standard multipurpose ships, with mighty heavy lifters, deck carriers and even in some case bulk vessels – all under our operation and management.”
