Leading lights pass away

January 9 - The new year has brought the sad news that two of the industry's leading lights have passed away.

AV Dawson owner and partner, Maurice Dawson has died, aged 75. He led the Middlesbrough-based logistics firm, founded in 1938 by his parents, through a significant phase in its growth.

The former diesel fitter apprentice spent years as a long-distance lorry driver before becoming joint managing director at AV Dawson alongside his mother, Eleanor, overseeing its successes for a number of years before eventually handing over the reins to his son, Gary Dawson.

Maurice died peacefully at his home in Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire, surrounded by his family.

Giorgio Bono, the founder of Italy's Saving Group, has also passed away, aged 73, following a sudden heart attack.

Giorgio had been involved in the project forwarding industry since 1961, when he joined Foster Wheeler Italy. He established Saving srl in 1964.

HLPFI sends its commiserations to the families and colleagues of Maurice and Giorgio.
