August 15 - Danish-owned global transport and logistics company Blue Water Shipping has moved 11,936 cu m of leg sections for a jack-up oil rig to Mariupol in the south-eastern Ukraine on the chartered heavy lift vessel Annette.

In Mariupol, Blue Water's team of stevedores, port captains and project forwarders yesterday handled the transhipment of the project cargo aboard two river barges for onwards transportation through the Russian river system to the Caspian Sea.

The physical transhipment process is expected to take 2-3 days, after which the barges will begin their journey towards the landlocked Caspian Sea passing through 18 locks on the way.

While the barges have been chartered by Blue Water Shipping in Moscow, the company noted that its set-up of owned offices in the Caspian area and its access to in-house resources such as own stevedores and engineers are the main reasons for it to be able to successfully handle this type of out-of-gauge shipment in the region.
