February 19 - While international container volumes at the Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) climbed 25 percent year-on-year in January, breakbulk cargo volumes declined.

NWSA attributed the decline in breakbulk cargo and automobile imports to seasonal volume fluctuations, and said that it expects throughput of breakbulk cargo to grow in 2016.

Containerised imports grew 33 percent year-on-year in January, while exports improved 16 percent.

HLPFI reported in August 2015 that the ports of Seattle and Tacoma had launched the NWSA.
