The trial shipment, which was conceptualised and developed by the port of NEOM, travelled more than 900 km from Cairo, via the port of Safaga, Egypt, across the Red Sea to the port of NEOM, then inland to commercial warehouses in Erbil, Iraq, in under 50 percent of the usual time that follow more traditional routes.

This pilot, according to the port of NEOM, demonstrates a scalable model for enhancing inland logistics connectivity, lending itself for expanded transit trade. It also corroborates Saudi Arabia’s ambitions under Vision 2030 to become a global logistics hub.

“Strategically located on the Red Sea and near the Arar border – the key entry point into Iraq – port of NEOM is uniquely positioned to serve as a vital regional gateway, connecting major global trade routes. By linking critical inland logistics corridors, it facilitates seamless trade flows between Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, unlocking new opportunities for cross-border commerce and economic growth,” the port added.
