April 20 - Volga-Dnepr Group and Moscow's Sheremetyevo international airport have signed an agreement on long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of cargo hub development at the Russian gateway.

The agreement intends to bring together the expertise of the airline and airport in order to influence development of the air cargo business, said Volga-Dnepr Group, which comprises B747 airline AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC).

Michael Vasilenko, director general of Sheremetyevo international airport, said: "For our airport, agreement of such level and context is the key to success as it anticipates a systematic approach towards enhancement of cargo infrastructure."

The cooperation involves Volga-Dnepr guaranteeing an agreed volume of transit at the airport, as well as transfer and import-export cargo flows. The deal will also see the construction of an up-to-date hangar complex and expansion of cargo facilities to offer handling for special commodities.

Besides the enhancement of cargo infrastructure, the agreement will encourage cooperation with other international airports in order to increase cargo flow and share experiences, added the airline.
