UK–US nuclear pact spurs wave of project announcements

The UK and the USA are poised to sign an agreement on nuclear power during president Donald Trump’s state visit this week, with the so-called Atlantic Partnership for Advanced Nuclear Energy aiming to fast-track regulatory coordination and licensing reciprocity for new nuclear power stations in both countries.

A series of major commercial announcements have come ahead of the visit, including proposals to build up to 12 advanced modular reactors in Hartlepool and to develop advanced data centres powered by small modular reactors (SMRs) at the former Cottam coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire.
