Crane quartet arrives at Sohar

March 14 - Four new ZPMC post-Panamax quay cranes have been shipped on board the semi-submersible vessel Zhen Hua 24 from Shanghai to Sohar Port and Freezone in Oman.

The four cranes, which will allow the Omani port to handle larger containerships, have now been unloaded at Sohar - an operation that took all of last week.

Temporary rail bridges were built from the ship to shore in order to move the cranes to the quayside. The ship was ballasted down so that it stayed level with the quayside as the cranes were removed.

Due to the unpredictable weather and tide movements last week, Sohar Port explained that the unloading process was a huge challenge.
