Multipurpose carrier AAL Shipping has held an official naming ceremony for the 32,000 dwt AAL Dammam, its sixth Super B-class vessel.
A steel cutting ceremony was held for AAL Dammam back in April 2024. The vessel measures 179.9 m in length, has a beam of 30 m, a depth of 15.5 m, and a low ballast draught of 6.5 m. Like all of AAL’s Super B-class vessels, AAL Dammam can accommodate over 150,000 freight tons of cargo, with three 350-tonne capacity heavy lift cranes, which are combinable for a maximum payload of 700 tonnes.
The naming and delivery ceremony was held at the CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in China. The vessel will immediately enter service with its maiden voyage transporting offshore renewable energy cargo from China to the UK.
Last month, HLPFI reported that AAL delivered a trio of Konecranes port cranes onboard one of its Super B-class vessels in an open-hatch configuration – a first for this vessel type.
