July 16 - Oregon, USA headquartered Erickson Air-Crane has been awarded a contract renewal by the US Department of Transportation, providing helicopter passenger and cargo transport in Alaska for the Essential Air Service programme.

The award was made to Evergreen Helicopters (EHI), which was acquired by Erickson Air-Crane during March 2013. For two years EHI will connect the island of Little Diomede - a village in the Arctic Circle  - and Nome, Alaska.

The Essential Air Service program sets aside federal funding to subsidise air services to remote locations with no other meansof transportation, notably when unpredictable ice conditions make traveling by boat or fixed wing aircraft impossible.
