Heavy lift and transport engineering specialist Sarens has introduced its latest giant crane to market, the SGC-170.

With a 170,000-tonne‑m load moment and a 3,200-tonne lifting capacity, the SGC‑170 is one of the most powerful land‑based cranes in the world. The zero-emission, fully electric crane has been designed for the heaviest lifts on the tightest job sites around the globe, said the company.

“10 years ago, plugging a crane like this into the grid would’ve been unthinkable,” said Matthias Sarens, head of design at Sarens. “Now, we’ve built a machine that’s not only more efficient and sustainable, but one that’s ready for the most demanding jobs, anywhere in the world.”

The company said that every detail of the new unit is designed for efficiency, transportability and adaptability. Fewer connections and larger components enable faster mobilisation and assembly. A reinforced frame allows for relocation in under a week.

The main boom with jib can lift a massive 1,300 tonnes at over 200 m height. The crane’s modular configuration can be tailored to client requirements.

HLPFI reported last month that Bechtel called on Sarens for Mobile Launcher 2 works at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.
