LPL active in Egypt Megaproject

June 2 - LPL Group has completed the last installation at a 4.8 GW combined-cycle power plant under construction in Beni Suef, Egypt.

At the construction site, LPL and its partners have installed 20 gas turbines, gas turbine generators and steam turbine generators over the last 13 months.

The German project logistics company was responsible for the complete logistic operations of the heavy lifts and the transport from different origins in Europe and the USA to the construction site in Egypt, with single weights ranging from 384 tonnes for the generators to 485 tonnes for the gas turbines.

Beni Suef is a new combined-cycle natural gas power plant being built by Siemens for the Egyptian Government, as a part of the Egypt Megaproject.

It will be the world's biggest gas-fired combined-cycle power plant complex when fully operational in 2017, capable of providing electricity to approximately 15 million Egyptians.

A second part of the Egypt Megaproject is the New Capital combined-cycle power plant, in the proposed new capital of Egypt, approximately 45 km east of Cairo, where LPL has delivered 12 heavy units, including gas turbines and generators, to the construction site, with eight to follow.

According to LPL, across the two projects a total of almost 1 million tonnes will be moved, including 500 heavy lifts as well as approximately 6,000 container moves.

Videos of LPL's "megaproject" can be found here.

Overall, the Egypt Megaproject includes building three 4.8 GW turnkey combined-cycle power plants  and 12 wind parks, including approximately 600 wind turbines.
