May 18 - The Port of San Francisco has approved a 15-year agreement for Pasha Automotive Services to provide cargo handling and other terminal services at Pier 80.

Pasha Automotive Services - a subsidiary of transport and logistics provider the Pasha Group - will invest in infrastructure improvements at the 70 acre (28.3 ha) site in order to handle up to 96 ships per year.

While the terminal will be used primarily to handle automobiles and other ro-ro cargoes, a spokesperson for the Pasha Group said Pier 80 has four operating gantry cranes and has recently handled project cargoes, including components for the Tesla Motors factory in Fremont, breakbulk steel and other heavy items.

Pier 80 also has two clear span sheds covering more than nine acres (3.64 ha) of the facility, which are ideal for sensitive cargoes requiring dry storage, said the spokesperson.
