Cascade Software has released AbHaulier LT, a free software tool that enables hauliers to submit abnormal load notifications to police and structure owning authorities in the UK.

Based on its AbHaulier product, AbHaulier LT features a drag and drop route plotting function, based on Google maps; an overlay of known abnormal load restrictions; and the ability to amend outward and return journeys at the same time.

The software also offers step-by-step route instructions and the option to save vehicles and previous routes for future use.

Sally Waterfall, managing director of Cascade Software, said: "By providing simple, fast and free to use notification software we believe that we can encourage all companies moving abnormal loads to submit the legally required notices to authorities. This is in everyone's interest."

Waterfall described the software as a free alternative to Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL), the free portal provided by Highways England.

According to Cascade, hauliers will be able to submit abnormal load notifications to all the required authorities in less than two minutes, which the software specialist claims is faster than the ESDAL portal.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "We welcome any software that makes the planning process for hauliers transporting abnormal loads more straightforward.

"Our free to use web-based electronic service delivery system for abnormal loads (ESDAL) provides dedicated portals for the police, structure owning authorities and hauliers to use and enables the notification and management of abnormal loads between the relevant organisations. It also has a specialist portal that enables Highways England's abnormal loads team to collaborate with all affected parties in England, Scotland and Wales in order to safely plot, agree and sign special order category abnormal loads on behalf of the secretary of state.

"ESDAL will be introducing more open interfaces to allow third parties to enter the market which will further assist hauliers in due course"
