UK-based Reimer, owner of Doherty Heavy Haulage, has acquired freight forwarder Specialist Logistics Services (SLS) and its partner company Martin Burgess Logistics.
SLS offers a turnkey service for out-of-gauge (OOG) and abnormal cargoes. Doherty’s, based in Luton, specialises in heavy haulage with a fleet of low-loaders and specialist trailers and equipment.
SLS said that it has worked with Doherty’s for many years already, and the takeover will enable it to directly utilise Doherty’s fleet of vehicles, offering more competitive rates on UK moves.
Both companies will continue to operate independently.
Hasan Huseyin has been appointed managing director of SLS. He will remain co-director of Doherty’s along with Darren Doherty.
After a long career in the project cargo sector, owner and founder of SLS, Martin Burgess, retired from the board during April. He said: “I will always be indebted to my former directors and current colleagues for making the business the success it has become, and the shear hard work and effort has paid off in the end allowing for the business to have bright future ahead of it under Reimers control.”
