“Joining ECS Group means making a contribution to the revival of this industry, and it means putting in place a clear and ambitious strategy, supported by digital technology and business intelligence tools that can help our airline clients move forward,” said van de Weg, who has taken on the role of chief commercial officer.

Adrien Thominet, ECS Group ceo, said that van de Weg’s appointment is part of the group’s long-term strategy to reinvent is business. “By joining the leading GSSA, Robert Van de Weg is acting as a disruptive force – and this means that ECS Group is no longer a GSSA like any other. The group fully understands the need to reinvent itself to embody a new business model and to meet airline requirements,” he explained.

Furthermore, Australasian GSSA Wexco has joined the ECS Group.

Commenting on the acquisition, Bertrand Schmoll, chairman of ECS Group, said: “Thanks to long-standing and high-quality partnerships and widely recognised expertise in the Australasian market, Wexco enjoys an excellent reputation in Australia and New Zealand. This was a crucial factor in ECS Group’s decision to acquire the GSSA to expand its activities in those countries.”

Russell Freeman and David Williams, owners of Wexco, added: “ECS Group is the world’s leading and largest global GSSA, not only in terms of its network but also in terms of innovation. ECS Group has digital tools that no other GSSA has developed, allowing it to constantly improve the way in which it meets the needs of its airline and freight forwarder clients.”
