“The investment in UWL marks an expansion of FOO’s footprint within the offshore wind service industry and will further strengthen our presence in the logistics and installation value chain for offshore wind,” said Even Larsen, ceo at Fred. Olsen Ocean.

UWL operates a fleet of chartered tonnage, including deck carriers. The company confirmed that it has initiated a newbuilding programme at Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard, China, for up to four deck carriers.

The first two vessels have been ordered and are scheduled for delivery in 2020, according to UWL. The DP2-equipped vessels will measure 148.5 m in length with a beam of 28 m. Each vessel will have an open deck measuring 130 m x 28 m.

Lars Rolner, founder of UWL, added: “We are very pleased to team up with FOO and are looking forward to working together. Combining our strengths and our expertise within the offshore wind business, we already have identified a number of synergies.”
