January 9 - Danish offshore installation specialist A2SEA has secured a contract from DONG Energy to install 97 wind turbines in the German part of the North Sea.

In the first half of 2015, A2SEA will begin installing the 6 MW turbines on the Gode Wind 1 + 2 project sites, which will have a combined capacity of 582 MW when completed.

A2SEA will mobilise its offshore installation vessel SEA INSTALLER to complete the work. The Gode 1 + 2 wind farms will be commissioned in the second half of 2016.

A2SEA ceo Jens Frederik Hansen, explained that he is happy to secure such a large contract in what is an increasingly competitive marketplace: "It is no secret that there are only a few offshore wind projects until we expect a slight increase in projects from 2017. And naturally we are interested in keeping our vessels deployed continuously to keep costs down and be able to contribute to the industry's goals to reduce the cost of energy.

"Furthermore, we see the agreement as an acknowledgment of our previous work and I believe we have shown our worth with e.g. the installation of 235 turbines in 2013. Last but not least it is a very positive signal from the German market that offshore wind is back on the agenda and prioritised."
