Ørsted will deploy Haliade-X 12 MW wind turbines at two of its US offshore wind farms, subject to final project approvals.

In August, Sogrebas, member of The Heavy Lift Group (THLG), provided stevedoring services to support the transport of the Haliade-X nacelle.

GE Renewable Energy has been chosen as the preferred supplier for the Skipjack 120 MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Maryland and the 1,100 MW Ocean Wind project off the coast of New Jersey. The projects are scheduled to come online during 2022 and 2024, respectively.

The agreement with GE marks the first commercial deployment of the huge Haliade-X turbine, said Ørsted. Each turbine blade measures 107 m long and the rotor has an overall diameter of 220 m.

Earlier this year, the massive turbine components were transported to Rotterdam where they will initially be installed onshore for testing, which will allow GE to collect the necessary data to obtain the type certificate – a key step in the commercialisation of the turbine.

The 713-tonne nacelle of the Haliade-X was transported from France on board BigLift Shipping’s heavy lift vessel Happy Sky. Sogrebas, member of The Heavy Lift Group (THLG), was responsible for the stevedoring in the port of Montoir, France.
