DEME Offshore has signed an agreement with Equinor to carry out a study examining potential floating concrete substructures for the planned Hywind Tampen wind farm off the Norwegian Coast.
The study is part of the engineering work under way ahead of a final investment decision (FID) regarding the project.
DEME Offshore said the scope of the front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract is “to mature and optimise the design and construction methodology for 11 concrete substructures including secondary steel outfitting, mooring arrangement and project executing strategy.”
Hywind Tampen is expected to be the world’s first offshore wind farm that will power existing oil platforms. It will consist of 11 turbines, each with a capacity of 8 MW, and provide about 35 percent of the annual power required for the Snorre and Gullfaks platforms.
During 2017, Equinor successfully commissioned the 30 MW Hywind project off the coast of Scotland – the world’s first utility-scale floating offshore wind farm.
