Blue Water Shipping has opened an office in Guyana in order to offer support to the country’s oil industry.
“It is a fact that the activities within the oil and gas industry in the [north-eastern part of South America] are on the rise and will be so for the next years, and we have therefore found it natural to intensify our focus in this area,” explained Thomas Bek, global director for Blue Water’s energy and project division.
He added that the opening of the new office was in line with Blue Water’s strategy of setting up global offices at key locations for the oil and gas industry, so that the company can be close to clients.
Blue Water already has experience in the region’s transport and logistics sector, having worked for companies like ExxonMobil and Saipem. The company has handled large volumes of cargo moving into Guyana and will now expand its range of services to include shore base, Customs clearance, warehousing, trucking, laydown management, heavy haulage and lifting for energy and project-related business into and out of Georgetown.
To support this expansion, Blue Water has partnered with Peterson Logistics, citing its footprint and complementary skill set as reasons to work together. Peterson has a track record of providing services in the Caribbean, while Blue Water has expertise in global engineering and forwarding.
Brent Patterson, Blue Water’s regional director for energy and projects in the Americas, said: “Many of our clients operate at locations worldwide. Being able to provide the transport and logistics services that the clients require – and where they require them - is essential for our service. We currently adapt and strengthen our set-up, and being able to add value to the clients’ projects is of great importance for our intake of orders.”
