ESTA honours members with 2018 awards

The ESTA Awards of Excellence 2018 had another successful year honouring and recognising members that have performed an outstanding achievement in their field of operations.

The event, organised by ESTA and International Cranes and Specialized Transport magazine was held at the Hilton Charles De Gaulle Paris, France.

Sarens won the first award of the evening - combined techniques - for the lifting of a 1,550-tonne pylon for a steel bridge over the River Wear in the UK.

The second award of the evening - the transport award for trailer and load under 120 tonnes - went to OL-Trans for the transport of a 25 m spruce tree from Poland to the Vatican in time for Christmas.

The award for telescopic lifting capacity above 120 tonnes was awarded to Wagenborg Nedlift, for its installation of four 78-tonne beams - each nearly 50 m long - on a Dutch housing project using a pair of 500-tonne capacity wheeled mobile cranes.

ALE was honoured with the safety award for its route survey tool, while Italy's Fagioli took the innovation and end user award for its installation of 19 mobile gates, each weighing 450 tonnes, using a bespoke gantry launching system.

The award for telescopic lifting capacity under 120 tonnes was awarded to Schot Verticaal Transport, while the transport award for trailer and load over 120 tonnes was presented to Kahl & Jansen.

Meanwhile, the lattice boom crane award was presented to Mammoet Europe, while Spierings Mobile Cranes won the innovation manufacturer award for its SK487-AT3 City Boy crane.

Wagenborg Nedlift was awarded the SPMT job of the year for its transportation of the 120 m-long Bokfjord bridge from Germany to Norway.

The final award of the evening - the Gino Koster Award for lifetime achievement - paid tribute to the late Benny Sarens, who passed away late last year.
