BNSF Logistics has coordinated the transport of a 22-ton (20-tonne) Oshkosh striker airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) truck from Wisconsin to Barrow, Alaska.

The initial plan involved trucking the ARFF vehicle to Seattle, Washington, for transfer onto a steamship to Anchorage and then channel passage to Barrow on a barge.

However, the channel to Barrow was blocked by ice and BNSF Logistics had to devise an alternative solution involve transporting the vehicle from Anchorage to Fairbanks on a specialised trailer.

The unit was moved 200 miles (321.9 km) to Deadhorse, Alaska, and placed in storage until the road connecting to Barrow became passable. When the road was clear, two snowcats equipped with a specialised trailer delivered the vehicle to its final destination.
