Measuring 15.8 m x 13.2 m x 17.2 m, the CO2 removal system was first transported 10 km by road before beginning a two-day barge journey to COSCO’s facilities. There, the cargo was loaded and lashed for a further ocean journey to Brazil.

For the transport, deugro deployed 36 axle lines of SPMTs. This helped with manoeuvring the cargo through a series of demanding obstacles, including navigating six turns.

A further challenge for deugro was weather conditions. Qu Peng, head of area North China at deugro, said the team “navigated dynamic tidal windows at the wharf, requiring precise timing during the cargo roll-on operation”.

“They tracked tidal patterns, optimising their actions for favourable time slots. Furthermore, adverse windy weather conditions introduced an additional layer of complexity to the operation. To tackle this challenge, deugro’s execution team implemented supplementary safety measures and conducted meticulous checks on every lashing and se curing element to fortify the cargo,” said Peng.
