Antonov Airlines has loaded 12 bays of gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) from Hitachi Energy onboard one of its AN-124s in Zurich, Switzerland.

Working with project forwarder Fracht, the shipment, which has a combined weight of 64 tonnes, is being transported 9,500 km across the Atlantic Ocean to California. The aircraft is scheduled to land on January 12.

Hitachi Energy’s high-voltage GIS – which controls and protects the network from power outages and facilitates reliable electricity supply – has been manufactured for a project in the USA, where it will be crucial to the state’s energy infrastructure.
