Under-the-jib equipment manufacturer Modulift has tested an MOD 1100/2000 modular spreader beam that will be used for offshore monopile installations by a Belgian client.

Currently, the MOD 1100/2000, which has a lifting capacity of 2,000 tonnes, is the largest standard beam supplied in the Modulift range and comes complete with DNV GL-type approval.

The 30 m-long beam was fitted with some optional extras that included upper shackle supports to protect the synthetic top slings when resting and two 45-tonne tugger points on each end. The Pewag PLDW tugger points were supplied by Prolift UK.

The main beam testing was carried out in Modulift’s recently upgraded compression test rig and was witnessed by the client and DNV GL. Two drop links were tested in Modulift’s newly built 1,500-tonne capacity tensile test rig.

Three individual tests were carried out: at a span of 19 m, 20 m and 30 m.
