NHH handles dump truck delivery

Australia’s National Heavy Haulage (NHH), part of the National Group, has delivered five Ultra-Class Liebherr T 282 C dump trucks to BHP Billiton’s Peak Downs mining site in Queensland.

Mark Ackroyd, managing director of the National Group, said: “This was not your everyday type of haul. The trucks are some of the biggest in the world and have an empty vehicle weight of more than 260 tonnes so when you put that into perspective, they each weigh more than 130 standard cars.”

The trucks required police escort and road closures from Mackay to Peak Downs over five separate trips throughout the months of September and October.

Ian Scott, general manger of NHH, said that the company utilised a range of Kenworth prime movers and Drake heavy-duty trailers for the transports.

National Mining Services, also part of the National Group, will now complete the final on-site assembly of the trucks before they are officially handed over to BHP.
