Wagenborg has completed the first of three lock gate moves in Emden, Germany, rolling the 2,500-tonne structure onto a pontoon.
136 axle lines of SPMTs were used to roll the lock gate onto the Wagenborg Barge 10, a seagoing pontoon measuring 100 m in length and 33 m in width. The tugboat, Waterstad, ensured the pontoon’s secure positioning for the ro-ro operation.
“This kind of transport demands craftsmanship. From the engineering phase to the ballasting of the pontoon, every detail was carefully calculated and executed. It is always good to see how our team worked together – towage, heavy transport, engineering – all disciplines aligned to make this happen,” said Wouter Siemerink, Wagenborg’s project manager.
The remaining two lock gates are scheduled for transport in the coming months.
