Grimaldi welcomes Grande New York

November 7 - The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Grande New York at the Jinling shipyard in Nanjing, China.

The Grande New York is the second of a series of three sister ships and has a length of 199.9 m, a width of 32.3 m and a gross tonnage of 63,000 tonnes. The first of the series, the Grande Baltimora, was delivered in July, as HLPFI reported here.

The Italian-flagged vessel can carry 6,700 car equivalent units (ceu), or 4,000 liner metres of rolling freight and 2,500 ceu.

Equipped with four hoistable decks, the vessel is capable of transporting any type of rolling cargo up to 5.2 m in height, says Grimaldi. It also features two access ramps, a side ramp and a quarter stern ramp, the latter allowing the loading of freight units with a weight of up to 150 tons (136 tonnes). The Grande New York will be deployed on the weekly ro-ro service operated by the Grimaldi Group between the Mediterranean and North America.

The ports served by the service are: Gemlik (Turkey), Gioia Tauro (Italy), Civitavecchia (Italy), Savona (Italy), Halifax, New York, Baltimore (USA), Veracruz (Mexico) and Antwerp (Belgium).
