Chapman Freeborn fuels plant project

January 3 - Chapman Freeborn Italy has coordinated an urgent cargo charter to transport a giant piece of machinery for a biofuel plant project from Turin, Italy to Recife in Brazil.

The outsize unit, which weighed 28 tonnes, was required as one of the final parts of a brand new production facility set to open before the end of 2013.

The cargo was originally scheduled to be shipped to South America by sea freight but Chapman Freeborn's Turin office was called in at short notice to arrange an Antonov AN-124 charter solution to ensure that the project deadline was met.

Ahead of the flight, Chapman Freeborn's team visited the manufacturer's facility to monitor the progress of the construction and advise on packaging requirements, before loading the cargo onto the freighter without the need for external cranes.

Matteo Forapani, ceo of Chapman Freeborn Italy, commented on the charter operation: "In addition to overseeing the carefully managed loading of the piece, we were able to ensure that the departure was set at a time to eliminate the need for expensive aircraft de-icing."
