CLdN and Peel Ports Group will develop a ro-ro river berth at the UK’s port of Liverpool.

The companies plan on constructing a lock-free berth on the River Mersey, adjacent to CLdN’s existing facilities at Brocklebank / Langton Dock. This, according to CLdN, would allow for the seamless berthing of its most efficient ships with a higher cargo capacity than those currently serving the terminal.

Formal application for consent is expected to be submitted in the second half of 2026, with construction then likely to commence in early 2028.

Highlighting the potential benefits to customers on CLdN’s Liverpool-Dublin route, the company’s ceo Florent Maes said: “The position of the berth would provide increased operational flexibility and efficiency and would also enable a further reduction in the carbon footprint of each freight unit.”

Last week, HLPFI reported that Peel Ports is set to inject cash to expand its steel and metals hubs at the port of Liverpool.
