Concord vessel recovered offshore Scotland

May 11 - Concord Shipping's heavy lift vessel, Industrial Kennedy, has been safely recovered having suffered a mechanical failure 160 km offshore Scotland's Orkney Islands.

According to Concord Shipping's managing director, Hinrich Rancke: "The vessel has already safely berthed at the Port of Lerwick, where we are arranging for repairs to be made.

The Shetland Coastguard was forced to dispatch a tug to help the 7,900 dwt Industrial Kennedy, which was carrying a shipment of steel pipes from Gibraltar to Norway. Rancke explained that the vessel suffered turbocharger/main engine damage, although the exact cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

There were no injuries to Industrial Kennedy's 13 crew members.

"We want to thank the UK coast guard, local agencies and our crew for their great support and performance in solving this difficult matter in such a smooth way," Rancke added.

Concord Shipping manages four sophisticated multipurpose vessels, each with one 87 m long single hatch. Vera (pictured) is sistership to Industrial Kennedy.
