February -11- An ill-fated UK Royal Navy ship is to be returned to the UK for repair by heavy lift shipping line, Dockwise.

The Royal Navy ice patrol ship HMS Endurance is to be moved on the MV Target to Portsmouth, with an expected arrival in late March.

HMS Endurance suffered an engine room flooding accident in December when sailing west along the Magellan strait which left her without propulsion or energy.

With help from the Chilean Navy, the ship, which was adrift, was recovered and towed initially to Punta Arenas and then to the Falklands. Investigations are continuing into the cause of the original flooding incident.

HMS Endurance's mission is to patrol and survey the Antarctic and South Atlantic, maintaining "sovereign presence with defence diplomacy" and supporting the global community of Antarctica.
