Enercon adds to fleet with Goldhofer

Wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has added six Goldhofer flatbed semi-trailers to its heavy-duty vehicle fleet.

The Ventum trailers are capable of transporting wind turbine blades measuring more than 70 m in length. The trailers feature pendular axles and a five-section telescopic deck. When fully extended, the deck measures 72 m in length, including the gooseneck.

There is also the option to add a rail-mounted blade tip lifting device.

Hans-Dieter Kettwig and Simon-Hermann Wobben, managing directors of Enercon, said the trailers enable the manufacturer to handle the challenges of transporting the oversized components over long distances.

In combination with Goldhofer’s pendular axle technology, the Ventum trailer is able to transport the components over bridges, navigate tight bends and roundabouts, and manoeuvre in confined construction sites. The hydraulic gooseneck can be lifted and lowered to ensure that the rotor blades can negotiate tunnels and underpasses, said Goldhofer.

Rainer Auerbacher, Goldhofer board member and head of transport technology, added: “With a steering angle of up to 60 degrees and the user-friendly SmartControl remote control system, Goldhofer provides outstanding support for drivers in their task of safely transporting loads of this enormous size to their final destination.”
