Deufol Döhle Projects (DDP) has delivered the first critical shipment for a major hydropower project under construction in Laos.
DDP organised the breakbulk shipment from China to Laem Chabang, Thailand, which included eight heavy and out-of-gauge (OOG) items as well as various accessories. The largest items measured 11.1 m x 5.9 m x 4.25 m and weighed 76 tonnes.
From Laem Chabang, Goldhofer hydraulic trailers were used for the overland transport to Luang Prabang, Laos. Due to roadworks along the route, DDP – in coordination with Andritz, client representatives and authorities – came up with a solution to jack up the loads to overcome temporary Bailey bridges and width restrictions.
The convoys travelled 1,100 km from Thailand to Laos, followed by a nine-hour, 140 km barge journey up the Mekong River. A custom-designed ramp system was used for the load-out, with DDP and involved engineering partners upgrading the barge prior its use to ensure international safety and insurance measures were met. The critical cargo was transported upstream in several lots and safely received at the plant’s jetty, before traversing steep roads to reach the storage area of the site.
DDP, a member of the XLProjects (XLP) network, recently worked alongside fellow member ARC Logistics to deliver critical cargo for a project in New South Wales, Australia.
