Euroports Group and the port of Hanko in Finland have signed a letter of intent (LoI) to establish a wind energy hub at Koverhar harbour.

Koverhar Habour - port of Hanko

The harbour is located in the southernmost part of Finland and will provide dedicated space to support the offshore wind supply chain. Spanning 600 ha, of which 90 ha is dedicated to port activities, the port of Hanko said that Koverhar harbour is uniquely equipped to facilitate major wind farm projects.

The partnership between Euroports and the port signals a significant investment in its renewable energy infrastructure, setting the stage for Koverhar to become a pivotal network hub across the whole Baltic Sea region.

“The letter of intent with the port of Hanko enables us to expand our business in renewable energy,” said Petteri Sammalisto, commercial director of Euroports Finland. “By creating a ‘Unique Wind Hub’ here, we’re not just addressing the immediate needs of the wind energy sector; we’re fostering a sustainable ecosystem that will serve the Baltic region and beyond.”

The aim of creating a ‘green ecosystem’ within the area involves discussions with a leading steel manufacturer and a H2 producer, contributing to a holistic approach to sustainability and innovation.

Euroports will leverage its experience as a terminal operator, with a strong track record in handling wind components, in addition to its ability to handle the full value chain, including the freight forwarding activities through its subsidiary Manuport Logistics.

“A partnership of this magnitude with Euroports underlines our dedication to renewable energy and environmental stewardship,” explained Anders Ahlvik, ceo of the port of Hanko. “Port of Hanko and specially Koverhar is a perfect harbour for the assembly and storage of wind turbine components”.
