Factory travels with M&M

November 7 - Militzer & Münch has coordinated the delivery of an entire factory that will produce float glass (plate glass made by allowing it to solidify on a layer of molten metal) from various locations in North America, Europe and Asia to a site in Ky

The consignment comprised various items of production equipment, including 8,000 tonnes of fire-resistant material for the construction of a melting furnace and 400 containers full of associated factory fittings.

Organised by M&M's project team in Frankfurt, Germany, the logistics provider was first required to sort out all tariff and tax issues with a local Customs agent before any of the shipments could start to move.

M&M ceo Lothar Thoma explained: "We synchronised every delivery precisely with the customer's assembly schedule. Our team selected the optimal routes in advance. Moreover, all contracts and transport documents had to conform to the tariff laws of the Customs union between Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus."

M&M handled the door-to-door delivery of the entire project, with out-of-gauge loads hauled on heavy-duty vehicles from Europe and China, while various containerised cargo was shipped from the USA, Russia, China, Thailand and India across all transport modes.

"Since the beginning of this year, we have delivered over 800 transport units to Kyzylorda on schedule", added Thoma.

The float glass manufacturing facility will produce about 600 tonnes of float glass every day when it becomes operation in mid 2017.
