Geodis Wilson carries record piece of air cargo

June 14 - Geodis Wilson took on the task of handling two prototype wind turbine blades using the largest freight aircraft in the world, the Antonov-225.

The two 42-metre wind turbine blades, claimed to be the longest cargo pieces to have been flown by an aircraft, were transported for its customer, LM Wind Power. The movement included inland transport from the LM Wind Power manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China, to Tianjin Airport for loading onto the An-225.

The blades were then unloaded for final delivery, at the Skrydstrup Vojens Danish Military Airport.

"Our activities in the wind energy sector are well known in the market, but the move of these prototype blades of LM Wind Power allowed us to conquer a new level of complexity," explained Global Manager Wind Energy Projects, Henrik Funk.
