January 8 - Global Shipping Services has handled the shipment of five transformers and 475 cu m of accessories and spare parts from the Port of Houston to the Tin Can Island Port and onwards to the IBESE cement plant in Lagos, Nigeria.

The shipment consisted of 66 packages, which had a total weight of 312 tonnes, and each of the transformers weighed 49.4 tonnes and had the dimensions of 4.4 m x 3.2 m x 3.2 m.

The transformers were moved to the export terminal in Houston using heavy duty drop deck trailers and oilfield transporters, while the other accessories were transported in 12 closed box trailers.

The scheduled liner vessels were to depart too late to meet the shipper's deadline, so Global Shipping Services chartered the Muntgracht, from Intermarine USA to give the fastest transit time.

Global Shipping Services is a member of the Global Project Logistics Network (GPLN) representing Houston in Texas, USA.
