June 10 - Munich-headquartered logistics services provider Group7 has achieved record turnover levels for its financial year 2012.

The company generated a turnover of EUR73 million (USD96.51 million) - an increase of 5 percent year-on-year over FY2011. Group7's managing director, Günther Jocher, was satisfied with the result: "We could raise our turnover even further in all four business fields - logistics, airfreight, ocean freight and road freight - in 2012, despite the world's weakening economy. Group7 is staying on track with pure organic growth."

The logistics sector registered the highest growth rates, explains Jocher: "New business at our five logistics locations in Munich, Neuss, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Nierderaula is the reason for our higher sales.

"We will continue to invest heavily in logistics in 2013. The groundbreaking ceremony for our new logistics centre in North Rhine-Westphalia will take place this August," he added.

Group7, which was formed only seven years ago, has rapidly developed into one of Europe's fastest-growing organisations. It placed 39th on the list of Europe's 500 fastest-growing, owner-managed companies, as calculated by UK headquartered business information compiler, Dun & Bradstreet.

Group7 used the transport logistic 2013 conference and exhibition, hosted in Munich last week, to present new environmental targets, with Jocher explaining: "We want to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 15 percent by the year 2020."

Group7 aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 18 percent in the air freight sector, 16 percent from its logistics operations, 12 percent in overland transport services, and by 11 percent in ocean freight transport.

Group7 has also presented a EUR10,000 (USD 13,220) donation to the Lichtblick Hasenbergl Childcare Centre in north Munich - a unit that provides care for young people aged 3-21. Most of the 80 children live in former emergency accommodation and council flats. These underprivileged young people could not complete their schooling or participate in youth training schemes without specialist help from Lichtblick Hasenbergl.

Johanna Hofmeir, manager of Lichtblick, thanked the logistics provider for its donation: "We depend on support for our project. Group7 has been helping us for years and has witnessed our development. The close collaboration with the company helps us to prepare our children for the real challenges of the world." The donation will be used to update IT systems and equipment.
